DSN Learning Session on Design Thinking in Data Science/AI Holds Tomorrow
Data Science Nigeria (DSN), the Bayo Adekanmbi led CSR initiative aimed at growing a league of young datapreneurs for the country, will tomorrow hold another in its series of learning sessions planned for the year with Dr Uyi Stewart, the Global Director and Chief Data Scientist, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USA as Guest Speaker.
The theme for the learning session: Applying Design Thinking in Data Science/Artificial Intelligence Innovation, is the forte of the guest lecturer while this is also a logical progression in the applying data science/AI to creatively bring about solutions to some social challenges.
The facilitator, who is also the Global Development Strategy, Data and Analytics director for the global foundation, also wears the cap as a former IBM Distinguished Engineer who worked in New York office for many years. He founded the IBM Lab in Africa with focus on use of Big data in Agriculture.
Dr. Uyi will take the stage to teach and mentor at the DSI learning session scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 14th April, 2018 at The Zone Tech Park, Plot 9, Gbagada Industrial Scheme, Gbagada Expressway, Lagos.
During the session, Dr Uyi who holds a -PhD in Linguistics with specialization in generative syntax and language/speech interfaces from McGill University and also holds He has credits for 9 patents in the United States will deploy his wealth of experience in the session designed for hands-on industry practitioners and students/PhD researchers.
According to the convener, Mr. Bayo Adekanmbi who is MTN’s Chief Transformation Officer, the country needs to focus on world-class capacity building in a consistent and rigorous manner if we truly want to build high-impact analytics products that can accelerate our national development.
One of the critical objectives of DSI according to the convener is to position Nigeria to become the data science hub for the continent, with the potential to access as much as 10% of the global data analytics outsourcing market, which is expected to garner $5.9 billion by 2020.
The sessions are tailored to meet this laudable goal as it focuses on raising a crop of young Nigerians through mentoring, training and internships.
