Staffers of Nigeria’s Continental Broadcasting Service (CBS) owners of TV Continental among others, were today thrown into a pensive mood following the looming sword of the Damocles which later resulted in the sack of about one-third of the nearly 500 strong members of the workforce.
The group owned by Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu had to shed its weight due to what the management termed as “high cost of maintaining the over blotted workforce”.
However, according to the pensive workers, the workforce was not that over-blotted and its was not anyway the problem, but rather the company’s is top-heavy, heavily skewed arrangement in which the bulk of the income of the wave making, four stations making up the group, going to maintaining the huge appetites of the over pampered management personnel and satisfying their egos.
Most of the affected staff and colleagues in solidarity with the affected staff blamed the national leader of the APC, Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu and the APC on one the hand and the lackluster-ed management on the other for mismanaging the funds of the group which they believe was highly liquid before troubles set in due to Ashiwaju and his group’s political aspiration.
The sack which has been reported earlier today on this platform is currently generating debates and its one of the most trending issues on the social media today. Read our earlier report here.
According to our source, none of the sacked workers could ask any question at the town hall meeting with the stack reality of joblessness starring them in the face but all hell is let loose on social media where they have started venting their annoyance.
It is also observed that to forestall any break down of law and order, the management has reinforced the company security arrangement with heavily armed security personnel on guard of the CBS broadcasting complex.
Soon after the meeting, workers were seen gathering in groups licking their wounds and blaming the Ashiwaju for the fate which befell them and the company. More later.
