The organisers of the annual Nigerian Entertainment Conference, NECLive 8 has announced the postponement of the event. The event in its 8th edition was postponed as part of measures to prevent the continuous spread of the dreaded Coronavirus currently ravaging the globe.

This was made known in an official statement made available to BrandCrunch on Friday 27th, March, 2020.

The statement reads; “We are officially announcing the postponement of #NECLive8. The recent outbreak of the Novel CoronaVirus (COVID-19) pandemic is challenging the world, including Nigeria with several new cases detected over the past weeks.”

“As a responsible organisation, we believe this decision is in the best interest of everyone. We are thankful to our partners, sponsors, exhibitors and media friends who through the years make necessary preparations to support NECLive in various ways.”

“For now, the NECLive Organising Committee will continue to monitor national and global developments on COVID-19 and work on our plans remotely, whilst reducing or completely avoiding all non-essential physical meetings or gatherings.”

“We empathise with those affected by COVID-19, both directly or indirectly and wish them all speedy recovery.”

“We urge everyone to take precautionary measures by practising social distancing, washing hands with soap, using hand sanitizers often, maintaining good personal and environment hygiene, and to call 08000CORONA for advice or enquiries.”

“We look forward to having you join us at NECLive when a new date is announced. Follow @necliv on Twitter and @neclive on Instagram for updates.”

“We thank you for your understanding and support.”

Recalled that since the outbreak of the coronavirus late last year, over 30,000 deaths have been recorded with over 660,000 people infected according to statistics by World Health Organisation.

In Nigeria, 81 cases have so far been recorded with Lagos having the highest number. In the fight against the spread, the government at various levels have place restrictions on gathering of people more than 30 including worship centers and market places
